Design Idea For Digi Pack...

I chose to go with a theme for the second idea which was a close up of the artists face. This allows a strong bond  between the audience and the artist as you feel close up and personal with that person. For example Britteny spears digi packs are all close up of her face to make you feel connected  to the artist, other artist like Rihana, Rebecca Ferguson and Adelle.

Choosing My Artist Name...

Choosing my artist name was difficult whilst picking a range of girl names that where not famous but sounded like a pop artists name. Results...

  • First Name:

  • Tiffany     - 60%
  • Bethany   - 30%
  • Kelly       - 7%
  • Katy       - 3%

  •  Last Name:

  • White    - 75%
  • Sparks  - 20%
  • Black    - 5%
  • Tower  - 0%

Meaning that the top mixture of name is Tiffany White meaning that this is the name that I will be using for my artist.

Digi Pack Cover White Version...

Over the last week or so I've started to produce my digi pack for my music video. This is the white version of it there is also a black version that I've created too. However, as I like both I'm going to let my targeted audience decided on which of the two relates more to the video but, not only that I will also be allowing my audience to decided on which of the two is most relevant and affective to the video and what compliments this song most.

I created two digi pack covers as although the first was great I wanted to show an alternative side to the video that may work better with the content of the video. At the moment I feel that my second digi pack looks to be the one that my audience will pick as it looks more like a digi pack than the first. I also tried the image as a black and white version to see if it would work well with the content of the video too.

3rd Video shooting...

I now have to organise the next day that I decide to film for my video as I now have a lot of my video material done. I will shoot the remaining shots and will begin organising the performance part of the video the dances are raw material at the moment but, I have got my dancers to choreograph a dance or two whilst I watch to see what would work well and if it would be suitable for the video as a hole.

Research For Digi Pack...

This research is to find existing digi pack covers from the artist I have chosen for my video. It seems that colour isn't a massively important factor as little neonic colours are shown. The main colours are silver, peach, white and grey as it makes the cover look timeless and also it is a consistant factor throughout the themes that the cover shows.

Digi Pack 2nd Cover Idea...

I'm going to produce a second cover for my digi pack so that I can get my audience to pick either the dark or white one as this will determine which one is more affective for my video. The dark version is shown in my earlier posts but, the second is the opposite to this as it will be a extreme close up of the artist face in black and white but to represent a ghostly appearance to it which will still tie in with my theme of monsters and horror. However, I will be doing two of the same picture but one in colour and one in black and white. This is because I want to make her lips and eyes stand out in neon green to attract the audience to the cover of the digi pack. Also, this will add additional skills to my work which will be demenstrated as I produce a black and white cover with coloured lips and eyes to attract the viewer.

I also will be giving the digi pack another title rather than 'Scary' which I used for my first cover. To decide on the name I will refere to my audience with a tick box questionnaire with a list of names that may suite the white version.

Video Editing...

I'm now editing my second lot of film for the video, and it has panned out well for the second time running. But, of course it has problems for example some shots are too short or too long. Overall, it looks good for now as the glitches are not significant to my overall piece.

Costume...

The costumes that I chose were not very fancy and didn't cost more that £20 for the lot (white short dress, two black dresses and a black hoody/ t-shirt). The costumes were basic but, I think affective to use because I didn't want the costumes to be too eye-catching as it would draw the attention away from the eyes which is what I wanted the main feature to be hence why the Digi pack cover is a vampires eye. Other than the costumes I wanted the main character to be (pure) in a word, as this allowed me to make them look even more vunrable and I slit and ripped the black vampire dresses as this would make them more animal like as then they don't look very tidy and clean then look very aggressive.

I found my self on the second filming stage to be at a dead end in terms of blood as I use nearly all the fake blood in the first filming stage and had to substitute to ketchup instead.

Make-up...

Here are the pictures which show the make-up designs that I created (well i didn't apply them but I gave ideas on what I wanted them to look like). I decided that I wanted them black and eye-catching but, also have a haunting colour too so I chose purple as it needed a bright colour adding.

Photos From Filming...

These are a few different pictures I took to show the location and I also took them of diferent cover fronts such as vampire about to bite the artist.

Filming For The Second Time...

Today I have done some more filming for my music video. The filming went well and although I did get a large amount done the pieces I filmed where filmed and performed very well. Meaning I am one step closer to achieveing my video piece.

As I now have a second vampire I can access the more important shots which require all charcters this means I have now got some of the harder shots out of the way. However, a problems occured the day before my sister (vampire 1) burnt her arm through no fault of her own meaning I had to improvise with the long shots for example.

Progress...

I'm making progress on my digi pack at the moment as i have come to a stand still with the music video for now. However, instead of me sitting around doing nothing I have started to design the front of my digi pack now and as it is a draft of the final product I am going to show piece by piece how I created this:

Digi Pack...

I am now starting to put ideas together for my digi pack cover as I need to start finding the most suitable style for the cover now and also so I can find the most affective designs and so that I can see what designs suit my cover and which dont.

I also need to find a title to call the digi pack meaning I need to refer back to my audience and give them a list of suggestions that would suit the digi pack. But, finding a great title is hard as I need to ensure that it appeals to my audience and so that it attracts them too.

I will be making a small questionnaire to give out to my audience as a find a questionnaire to be easy to use and can quickly be answered in a small space of time allowing me to have more time to use the results.

Postings...

I haven't done a lot of posting recentley and the reason was I have had to organise dancers to perform during when we next break up. So I need to ensure that not only I have the dancers but, they know the dance numbers and can perform them quite easliy for the video.

I have successfully producted the first 36 seconds of the video but, im not completley happy as one of the opening shots isn't fast enough and I need to reshoot it to make it in time and rhythm with the first and third shot. I will be organising another day trip to my forest location so that i can produce the other shot will both the back-up dancers (vampires).

Results Of Audience Feedback...

Results from my questionnaire showed that:

From question one, the colours my audience wanted and thought would be shown in the video was orange, black, purple and pink. These where the main colours shown in the results because of the mood of the song and also the theme it was trying to establish (Halloween). As my audience had very similar ideas to my own interpretations of what the video would looks like it proves that I'm on the right tracks to making an effective and successful video.

The second question involved images that you can and would relate to the song and video. Again my ideas where very similar to my audiences such as adding monsters and dance routines to the video to make it more spooky.

From the third question I found that the key words that stood out where 'monster' 'scary' 'dark place' 'taking over my mind'. These words will help by making guidelines throughout my video so I ensure that these words or phrases are added in.

Question four showed that the location/ setting of the video should be in a forest, wooded area, haunted house or Halloween party. these ideas are all great feedback ideas that I can work with because I live near wooded area and can gain access to them.

The fifth questions was a simply tick box question which asked do you think that I should add monsters to the video to make it  more exciting? The answers that I got back where positive to the idea meaning that I'm pleased that I have a clear idea how the video will work with the song I chose.

The sixth and final question asked what kind of mood does the song present itself as. The answers where very similar again and all included that the song had a upbeat, dark, sexy sound to it.

Overall, I am pleased with the results I got as it gives a clearer idea for me to use when producing my video.

Questionnaire For Audinece Feedback...

This is what my questionnaire will look like as I give them out to my audinece.

Members Of The Video...

At the moment I am having trouble finding a main singer but, I do have all the back up singers and vampires ready I just have to find a main character/ singer and create the costumes for the video as well. However, as the deadline draws closer to me and also as we have to take some of the footage for the video during next week (21st - 31st). This gives me a large amount of time to rehearse dances and also to make sure I have location set to shoot some clip within the video.

My main objective is making sure I can find a setting within a wooded area (forest) for example as half of the video is shown in a forest as this area tells the story of the video. A bonus is that as I live in the rural area I have access to these areas which proves beneficial for me.

Moving On With My Video...

With the deadline moving swiftly towards me, I decided to organise things quickly to ensure that I am prepared for the video shooting. As, I have family that attend dance school I have secured dancer to the video and I am in the mids of getting a singer for the video too.

My story board is finished and will be uploaded soon but back to the video planning. I am also in the process of making and preparing the costumes for my dancers and singer. I have also got set periods of time where the dancers will be able to perform there dance numbers during school hours (dinner times).

Next, I need to ensure that I have a name for my artist and how I will be doing this is I will consult my audience and create a questionnaire for each person to fill in on what they think would be a suitable name for the artist and any other requests or ideas they may have or expect in the video production. In my next post i will be showing the results of the questionnaire and also how I'm getting on with my organisation.

Pictures Of Digipacks...

These are some of the Didi packs that I have found around the house, the Didi packs are from the artists David Guetta and Leona Lewis both very popular and very famous in this modern age. I chose these two artist because their music is very different from each other and they are both completely different  music style and also how they are both presented to their audiences.

David Guetta's Digi pack is a very vibrant coloured style and looks very upbeat meaning it complements his music very well too because, his music is very loud, in your face and has a colourful strong vibe to it. the words look as if they have been spray painted onto the digi pack making it look youthful, exiting and give it a rough side to it. Even the CD is in bright coulors and has the digi pack's name spray painted onto it which make it look genuine, unique and give it 'the mark' of the artist.

However, Leona Lewis's Digi pack is quite the opposite as her's involves colours such as black and white these are primary colours for an emotonally based album therefore, it makes the audience see straight away that the ablum is a heartflet range of songs and also makes the arist appear this way too. What is interesting is that everything is in black and white except her this may have been used to make her standout to the audience viewing or simple to make her look like she is hopeful and looks powerful as she standouts. aA the ablum is called 'Spirit' this resembles a ghostly appearence thus using the colours black and white. The inside is very basic as it has little words and is again black with white text as this then blends in with the outside and makes it look the same type of album.

Problems With My Song Choices...

The biggest problem is one of the songs I picked it's so well known that it would prove impossible to recreate as so many people know the song. This song is called 'Time Warp' by Rocky Horror Picture Show but, as I have never heard the song before I can create my own interpretation of it meanings and as I have neither seen nor heard this song before I have a much more unique image/ideas range of what I would like the video to look like.

However, with the second song choice it is far less known unlike my other choice meaning it would be much easier to create a video for this song as my audience wont know the song as well, allowing me to make the video as both I and my audience see and hear it.

To conclude I will relate back to my audience and see if the songs and ideas that I have picked prove to be benificial to my work. Also, primarily to see which of the two are easiest, interesting and best to pick to produce my music video.

Picking My Music Video...

Picking my music video has been one of the most difficult decision I have had to make in this process, meaning that once I have found it I can then begin to see what my audience think of it meaning I can begin putting images and ideas into action. I have chosen two very different songs for making my music video but I'm not sure which of the two is better the songs are 'Scary' by Britney spears and 'Time Warp' by Rocky Horror Picture Show. As far as I'm aware one of these songs isn't known globally as it is a new song to be released in the future ('Scary' by Britney Spears) and the other is very popular so it would be wise not to use it ('Time Warp' by Rocky Horror Picture Show) as too many people know this song and would expect the video to be a particular style and genre. Meaning I am more likely to choose the song that hasn't been released as it would allow more freedom for my audience and my self.

Laura Mulvey Feminist...

Laura Mulvey is an important character in how music videos are represented in her eyes a music video was seen through a males eyes and also that females where presented in a wrong way for example many would wear too much make-up and would dress with hardly any clothes on making them seem inappropriate through her eyes. It also made them seem more like objects rather than people.

As she was a feminist she and others didn't feel it was right for the music industry to present females in this way.

Goodwins Theory Of Six...

1) Music Videos demonstrate genre characteristics for example a stage performance in metal videos or even dance routines for boy/girl bands. http://www.muzu.tv/gb/thewanted/glad-you-came-music-video/998724/

2) There is a relationship between the lyrics and visuals - either illustrates the video helps convey the meaning of the song, amplifying the video repeats or exaggerates an effect, moment or phrase from the song or contradicting the video completely ignores the song. http://www.muzu.tv/gb/ladygaga/born-this-way-music-video/920439/

3) There is a relationship between the music and the visuals - either illustrates, amplifying or contradicting. http://www.muzu.tv/gb/nicolescherzinger/wet-music-video/1069955/

4) The demand of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist(s) and the artsiest may develop motifs which recur across their work. For example the way that Maroon 5 has a large amount of close ups that are used in the video to make you feel like you know them. http://www.muzu.tv/gb/maroon5/moves-like-jagger-music-video/1051598/

5) There is frequently reference to notion of looking - Meaning that a relationship between the artist and the viewer is formed because it looks to be if they are singing to you and the camera acts more like a window than a camera.

6) There is often intersexual reference - to films, other music videos etc...

Different Types Of Music Videos...

There are three different types of music videos that make up the videos of today these are as follows Performance, Narrative and Abstract.

A performance music video includes usually a solo or a group of performers either dancing to the song of choice however, it can also just be a group or a solo artist standing and singing into a microphone these are seen to be the easiest of the three as it require the least amount of skill involving camera, computer, editing and organisation skills. Meaning you could in fact set a recorder from one angle as a group either sings or dances which then allows you to produce a music video much easier than a Narrative or a Abstract video. An example of this would be the link as follows:  http://www.muzu.tv/gb/thesaturdays/. This performance includes both dancing and singing and is more commonly used for producing pop music videos these prove to be dominant over this type of video. As they are the easiest genre of music produce.

The second type of music video is the Narrative video which involves a video that isn't related to the song in many ways at all but may just concentrate on a word or sentence from the song chosen. A great example would be ColdPlay's The Scientists link: http://www.muzu.tv/gb/coldplay/the-scientist-edit-music-video/154020/. This type of music video is used for almost any genre of song meaning it is the most popular of the three to produce. It also allows the maker to make the song unique to others as shown in the link that ColdPlay's song is done in reverse. This can prove key for gaining an audience as it grabs their attention as it is a unique video style meaning it also presents questions for the audience such as, How did they make it the way it is? Which grabs the viewers attention.

The third type is the Abstract video, this contains a video of images or short clips that have no connection to each other but, are co-ordinated to match the pace of the song. This is used for videos that look for a unique audience that likes the song and doesn't particulary care about the video or perhaps they just like the style of the video. As I could not find a good example of a Abstract music video I haven't posted a link. This go's to show that it isn't the commonly used video and this may indicate that it is one of the harder videos to make.

Homework...

This post is from home im going to be researching music videos with specific ideas as shown in previous posts. In this research I will be conducting a research/experiment to see how both darkness is used in music video and how it is presented to the target audience but, not only will I carry out this research, i will be looking into how the water element is used throughout music videos, this may indicate weither or not I can use both of these key elements in my own creation. The website i will visit are as follows muzu, google and grooveshark as these have a range of different genres of music such as metal to pop.

But First...

I have an idea on what type of genre of music i will,  Im certain that Iwant to create a viedo involoving a darker theme but, I would like to involve rain or water in one way or another. But, its deciding on the next step.

First of all I will need to see how other music videos have incorporated water into a video of their own. Or in fact if the water has been edited into it, as its are second lesson on this piece of work I still have time to piece together what i will work with.

Introduction...
